Does anyone remember the irish Matron 1966-70 ish. She frightened the living daylights out of all of us. She would shout and shout, but was actually very kind if you were ill, and calmed right down if she ever went out on a school trip. Looking back now I think she was a frustrated spinster! One April fools day my friend and I scooped the egg out of her boiled egg at breakfast, and thinking she would go mad and not get the joke I remember shaking until she broke into it.......for once she accepted it with humour, a very rare event!

I remember her very well - I attended the school from 1971 - 76 and she was the Matron for the first few years. Her name was Maureen Duggan - terrifying woman, tall with wide shoulders and a square jaw. I had to sleep in her room for a while after I ran away in the middle of the night and she was actually very nice to me.
